Film Fest presents The Duchess, staring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fines on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in the Paramount Theatre on Argyle Street at 7 p.m. only.  Tickets are $6 ea. and available at the Rollin Art Centre and the museum.

A high energy, dynamic and colourful evening of music,dance and capoeira with a Brazilian beat, sponsored by the Community Arts Councl will be held at the Capitol Theatre on Fri. The Port Alberni Highland Dancers present the 26th Annual Robbie Burns Dinner.

A delicious traditional Scottish Feast will be served with all the trimmings.  Guests will be entertained by the MacKenzie School of Dance, West Coast Pipers and the local Scottish Country Dancers.

Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce Community Excellence Awards and Annual General Meeting.

Nine categories make up this year’s Community Excellence program. Small Business Excellence 1-10 employees, Large Business Excellence 11+ employees, Entrepreneur of the Year, Customer Service of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Youth of the Year, Children and Family Friendly Business, The Valley Environment Award, and Citizen of the Year.

A night of uplifting and inspiring music from local church and community choirs, Phil's Harmonics String Orchestra and a Bell Choir will be presented at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Friday, Apr. 17th at 7 p.m. This event is suitable for the whole family. Free!

this is an annual event at which Portal Players, the local dramatic society, has done very well in the past. It is competitive and so the quality is very high.
