From performing old-time to country, from bluegrass to good old rock "n" roll, these young songwriters harmonize, sing and shout songs of joy, sorrow and everything in between, at the Capitol Theatre, Friday, January 22 at 7:30 pm. Robbie Burns Night

On January 23, 2010, come join us at the Italian Hall (corner of 6th and Wallace) in Port Alberni to celebrate Robbie Burns birthday, all things Scottish. There will be a traditional roast beef dinner, haggis for the brave, bagpipes, drums, Scottish country dancing and the ever energetic Highland dances performed by dancers ranging in age from 5 to 16 years old. And even an appearance by Robbie the Bard himself! Tickets are $25 and now being sold at Somass Drugs and Echo Centre. Doors open at 5:30pm.

Na-naa-ya-sii - Echoes of Our Ancestors

Art works by local First Nations Artists are on display at the Rollin Art Centre Gallery, on the corner of 8th Ave. and Argyle St. Artists include Ray Sim with unframed limited edition prints, Jason Titian with hand carved masks, Tom Paul with red cedar carvings, Joshua Prescott with framed limited edition print, Tobias "Bear" Watts with a hand carved salmon and Kelley Foxcroft-Poirier with acrylic paintings. The Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free admission! Wheelchair accessible.

The Last Station

The second film in the Winter/Spring 2010 Film Fest follows the story of Leo (Christopher Plummer) and Sofya Tolstoy (Helen Mirren), a married couple for forty-three years, and the battle that raged between them at the end of Leo's life.  The film plays at 7 pm only.  Tickets are $7 ea. and are available at the Rollin Art Centre and the Alberni Valley Museum.

Vintage Video Game Day

Tambura Rasa

Tambura Rasa stands out as a group that has formed a worthwhile synthesis of music from many cultures. Ivan Tucakov leads the group playing electrifying Flamenco, Balkan and Sharqi beats with sensual Flamenco and belly dancing. Lady Rose Marine Supports Cancer Society

For the entire month of March, Lady Rose Marine will donate $20 per round trip passenger to the Cancer Society. Considering that the the round trip fare is $68, this is a big part of the fare. Totem Pole Raising to Commemorate Residential School Survivors

Gordon dick and Erich Glendale have been carving a totem pole in front of Ahtsik Native Art Gallery since the beginning of March. They continue to work on the pole until it will be raised in front of the Old Residential School on The Tseshaht Reserve where the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal council now operates. Friday April 30th at 7am.

Book Launch The Wild Side Guide to Vancouver Island’s Pacific Rim
