The Vancouver Island Spine Trail is being developed by the Vancouver Island Spine Trail Association, VISTA, a part of "Hike BC," the BC wing of the National Hiking Trail. It is a proposed trail that will run the length of Vancouver Island. To raise awareness and and publicise the associations efforts a kick-off event will take place this June. Individuals or groups can participate as the relay passes near their community. From June 17-19 the group will hike the length of the Beaufort Range arriving in Port Alberni on 19 June. the following day, they will hike in the Port Alberni Area before heading on down the Alberni Inlet and on to Lake Cowichan.
