One of Canada's 5 Great Coastal Hikes has a Port Alberni connection
West Coast Trail: This internationally renowned classic stretches between Port Renfrew and Bamfield on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The 77-km (48-mi) stretch traversed by trails, ladders and cable cars regularly makes it onto top 10 lists of best hikes around the world. Although hikers regularly tramp through faster, seven nights is a good length of time to savour the trail. The best jumping off spot for the trail has traditionally been Port Alberni. It has a good variety of grocery stores for last minute stocking up, and an excellent variety of accomodations. Also boasts a convenient and scenic way to get to Bamfield without enduring the bone-jarring ride over rough looging roads. Lady Rose Marine offers a scenic cruise down the Alberni Inlet to Bamfield.
