If you’ve got a picture of a bear, a logger, or even the mill at Port Alberni stashed away somewhere, you might be in the running for a prize. The non-profit Alberni Valley Tourism Council has launched a photo contest to gather images for the area’s new website and brochure. The five categories include Bears and Wildlife, Logging and Industry, City and Country Scenes, Valley People, and Water Play.

Prizes include:

  1. Accommodation and breakfast at the Hospitality Inn, and admission to McLean Mill and the steam train, for a family of four;
  2. Accommodation and breakfast at the Cedarwood Lodge, and a Somass River canoe tour, for two;
  3. Accommodation and breakfast at the Best Western Barclay, and a round of golf at Hollies Golf, for two.
  4. Guided Log Train Trail bicycle ride with Batstar Adventures, for eight;
  5. A $100 gift certificate towards life jackets, wake board, or other great gear from the Port Boat House;

A Bonus Prize of a Waterfall Tour for two from Rainbird Excursions will be awarded to the best entry from outside the Alberni Valley area, and a People’s Choice award of an all-day canoe excursion on Great Central Lake with picnic lunch for two from the Ark Resort, will go to the popular favourite.

Five runners up will receive ‘Bear tracks and lumberjacks’ hats and golf shirts, and the first 10 entries will receive a T-shirt. Winners will be announced November 20, 2007.
