Making our mark on the mail

Thursday, January 8, 2009

Now appearing at a post office near you: the Alberni Valley's new 'Bear tracks and Lumberjacks' cancellation stamp.

Neil Malbon, Chair of Alberni Valley Tourism, has announced the introduction of a branded cancellation stamp for the area's outgoing mail.

The stamp contains the new bear track logo, the slogan, and the words 'Alberni Valley BC' along with the date and Canada Post wordmark. It is available on request at the post office.

The new stamp was the brainchild of postal worker Lisa Aylard, who saw similar marks for other destinations. "I really love our new symbol and feel it does a great job promoting the valley. The paw print represents strength, the water represents the tsunami but also cleansing and change, and the log represents what the valley was built on."

Malbon says, "Having our own stamp is obviously totally cool. We hope locals will ask for it whenever they mail letters and cards from the post office, and we're looking forward to next year when thousands of Christmas cards can go out with our new mark on it."

If Canada Post agrees, it must be true: Alberni Valley is more than a pleasant place to drive through; it's a destination that's making a mark!
